What We Treat

Substance abuse and addiction

Substance abuse and addiction problems often accompany OCD and Anxiety disorders. Individuals who struggle with substance abuse and addiction engage in uncontrolled use of substances (e.g., alcohol, illicit drugs, prescription medications) and/or behaviors (e.g., gambling, shopping, gaming) despite experiencing harmful consequences. People engage in these behaviors in order to feel good (e.g., get “high” or intoxicated); feel better (e.g., relieve stress, to feel numb); to improve performance; and/or due to curiosity, boredom, experimenting, or peer pressure.

People who struggle with substance abuse and addiction may demonstrate distorted patterns of thinking and behavior that contribute to their problems. They struggle with decision-making, judgement, learning, memory, and behavioral control. These individuals may have awareness that they have a problem, but they are unable to stop even if they want to.

At OCD & Anxiety Solutions, we offer help for those individuals who are trapped in the cycle of substance abuse and addiction, in addition to OCD and Anxiety Disorders. Some of our therapists possess specialized training that makes them uniquely equipped to provide evidence-based care for all problem areas concurrently.
